Best free Spyware and ANTIVIRUS around?

I have the latest Adaware, by Lavasoft, but it restarts my PC during scans... which is very annoying. Old versions of Adaware were ok... any suggestions?

Oh, and which is the best free ANTIVIRUS too?

Got AVAST and it also restarts my PC with a thorough scan... although everything seems to be OK with my computer!
