i have a norton antivirus 2005 software which expired in dec. 2006.my friends told me that it can be upgraded free of cost from the net but they are charging for it .please solve my problem

The only way to get a free upgrade is via a crack/hack which is illegal. I can only suggest that you get another antivirus which isn't such a huge system bloater like Norton is
