Please anyone out there, where can I find an antivirus software that can completely erradicate the above virus from my PC? I got it from a friends flash disk and its perculiarity is that it keeps on creating empty folders and opens folders in new windows instead on itself. It also bars the folder sizes to 33.5kb for all affected folders. Help, please help. I've tried with kaspersky 6 but at a given stage of the cleansing it can't delete the detected virus. Given that I have a multimedia keyboard, whenever I try to increase or decrease the volume of sound on the PC, everything freezes.

I need to download a driver for a scanner I bought. The site www.mustek.com says that I need to disable my antivrus program and firewall or that the new files may be corrupted. Is this a usual procedure when downloading a driver? What happens if I don't disable the antivirus program? Also, how do I disable the program temporarily?

This sort of thing happens all the time and do disable my antivirus progam. I donr knw what antovirus program you are useing but basicly you can just right click on your ativirus in your tool tray and select disable.i am useing AVG and my disableing option says quit.

Usually you can go down to your system tray in the lower right,. If you hover over an icon is should say the title of the program. Then you can right click on your anti virus and there should be an option to quit. If not, you can just do the "control-alt-delete" and end it through there.
This is a strange question as you normally don't have to disable anti-virus to download a driver. Try rebooting your computer or check if you have a virus screwing things up. If your running windows vista you could have some problems since vista always has bugs. But just to be sure, check your firewall to see if it's blocking the current problem. Disabling the anti virus makes you more vulnerable to threats but could resolve the problem. Usually there is an option on the antivirus to disable it. I'm not exactly sure how to disable a program temporarily but you could search it up on Google

click on the avg thats on your desktop and somewhere in the box that pops up is the firewall for avg you need to re-enable it. something has knocked it out it happens ocassionaly. when you re-enable the firewall it should put the icon back on the taskbar and once the firewall is active again it will do the auto updates

I have done the same thing...no problem...I got it extended for one more year from the date of reinstallation! You have to uninstall it completely. After uninstalling, search for Norton, if you still find some, right click and delete them. Empty your recycle bin also before reinstalling.

symantec is a joke....i suggest using zone alarm. Try out the free version, and compare it to symantec, if you have past experience with symantec. Zone Alarm has anti virus, ANTI SPYWARE, privacy protection, email protection, identity protection, IM protection ( instant messaging ), parental controls. And if you tune it up just right, which is easy to do, you can see every little thing that is installed and uninstalled on your computer, but most importantly, it lets YOU decide what happens and what doesnt, with a " remember this settings" feauture. Oh, and about the "free" software,.......sorry, zone alarm goes at about $50.00 in California. It all depends on how concerned you are about your computers security. But in my opinion, 50 bucks is a lot cheaper than symantecs products, and WELL WORTH IT!!!

You're then supposed to phone up and pay and they give you a registration code but the crack cuts out the middle man and generates a key code for you...

The two I use are ZoneAlarm and RegRun. ZoneAlarm has an all around package with firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware. RegRun keeps your registry in top shape.
You have the right idea mate, Norton and Macafee are terrible, they are resource hogs. I use Eset's Nod32 myself, works great, no problems, and I barely feel it running.

Don't use one. Reboot and restore programs work so much better. Just restart and all infections disappear. In fact you have to disable the program to install anything you want after the current session. There isn't a better protection method.

You did not specify which version you are using or the operating system you are using it on. Get NOD32 it takes the least amount of resources and works so much better that Norton. Norton was good many years ago now it is garbage. Im an IT guy and this is what i use for the 200 computers that are in my network. Have never had a problem, in fact many of the most dangerous viruses have been found by NOD32 and yes the viruses were blocked. So go check it out you wont be disapointed. Sounds like maybe the user has more programs that he's supposed to have running during an antivirus scan. Also, how much memory do you have? Norton is a system hog.. so if you don't have juice in your computer, your going to be in serious trouble.

Norton is a good antivirus however it is a high RAM program so first reinstall Norton, and if it still freezes up try closing some other processes. If it still continues then get another antivirus like Trend Micro or AVG

Yes, two different anti-virus programs running at once can cause problems, so you should uninstall Norton first. AVGFree is a good program but every now and then I used to have problems running the update and had to do it manually.
