well according to my opinion, the antivirus is normally developed after we discover some virus, and how do we fined anti for it. we analize its side effects and try to figure out how can we prevent those side effects and when we found them, we make some sort of antivirus...
Spysweeper isnt antivirus and also isnt that great of a program. Get AVG or Avast. IF your willing to pay Id go with Nod32 first. Also get spybot and adaware for spyware/some trojans.

If you want to spend money, go to bestbuy or staples and get Mcafee or Symantec's version. If you have hispeed internet, they may give it to you at no charge (just call). Otherwise a free version called AVG is "ok"
Norton, AVG , Avast are free antivirus software. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html .
Go to http://www.filehippo.com and look in the Anti-Virus panel and download one of them. AVG is free but needs to be updated by going back to Filehippo or download it direct from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
