Hi, Mac OS X is a Unix like operating system. Unix has been designed to be secure by default and there r no viruses in the wild for Mac OS X.

You should always run a firewall though. Visit my blog, the security advice there is for openSUSE so its Linux but then again Linux and OS X r both based on Unix so it may be helpful.

anti virus in mac is just for scanning data which came from other OS (windows to be exact). Security features in this OS is high that it does not need one. Anyway you can use any freeware such as clam AV.
