Any computer wiz out there? My computer running Windows XP SP2, freezes when running antivirus progr

I've run both Norton and AT%26T antivirus programs and get the same problem. I've recently reformatted my hard drive because my system was crashing frequently. It started when a program I was installing seized up. Any help would be appreciated.

first problem is your running two anti-virus programs which is not good. The other problem is that Norton anti-virus is a memory hog too.

I will suggest some free virus programs and some good paid ones

Free: Clamwin site: http://www.clamwin.com/

pros: Free, not a system memory hog, small

cons: no real time scanner

Free: AVG Anti virus Site: http://www.grisoft.com/

Pros: Free, Simple, automatic updates, free technical support

Cons: none really

Paid: Kapersky' Anti Virus 6 Site: http://www.kaspersky.com/

Pros: Has everything you need and doesn't take up as much memory as bitdefender

cons: I have none!

hope this helps

This sounds like a Hardware problem to me...

1. Your memory card(s) are bad and corrupting data going through them.
