Prolonged use of Ubuntu without antivirus software ?

Is this wise or is there recommended antivirus software specifically intended for use with Ubuntu ?

Please Advise.

I've tried to get a virus in linux, and failed miserably. Just be cautious about running programs you've never heard of as root

I have been surfing porn with one of mine for a few weeks no problems yet this would have melted a MS xp in a couple of days there are just very very few viruses for us and those cant propagate on our systems
Well yes it is unless you do something stupid. In general antivirus is not necessary with linux. Unless you run something as root that is a virus, you are unlikely to get one. If you have a firewall and dont click on something untrusted and run it as root, you should be fine. Also 99.9% of all viruses target windows boxes
