From my personal experience, I copied the entire contents of the AVG folder to a CD-RW disc, reformatted the hard drive, reinstalled AVG, then copied the contents back to the newly installed AVG folder. This seems to have worked fine.

Details: Windows XP Home v2002 SP1, Dell computer, 801mhz processor.

Hope this has been of use to you. Good luck. :)
Everytime you get the updates, all of the updates sent out before it are included in the definition file. There is no need to back them up, as when you reinstall it or anything like that, the latest update gives protection to all of the know virus attacks, just like any other program. It may seem like you have to back them up but there is no need to with this arrangement.
yep the updates you download all go into the same file,so if you want to copy just copy the hole file to get the latest updayes as well.c yah
Just save the whole file on a disk if you can. It's not really a big deal, I mean you can always download the software again and do a 2 minute update on the software.
